She's got a point. Catchment areas are just wrong. With modern IT facilities, you could collate all the applicants and calculate the distance to school on a person by person basis, then provisionally allocate them to the nearest school. Rank the pupils at that school by distance, then start filling the school. Simples.
Still, I think I'd admit the mum to mine and give her an education!
