He made the same complaint about the same bank 6 years ago. Grow a beard and wear a false nose when you go there next, Delancaster-Swinbank-Slack, that'll show them.
Banks in the US have the same rule. That said, I've never removed my cap when entering a bank and have never been asked to. I'm actually not clear on hat etiquette when one is in a place for only a few minutes; I remove my hat any time I've entered a place I plan on staying at for awhile. Mr. way-too-long-surname appears to like arguing with people...
@Ken Taylor Someone's home, churches, courts of law - Yes. I don't think that shops, pubs, post offices, railway stations count as 'indoors' due to practical reasons. Banks should have staff to hold customers' hats thereby allowing their customers to use their hands for holding cheque books, paying-in books, cash, cheques, cards and pens. Hot towels and soothing refreshments should be offered and customers addressed as 'My Lord' or 'My Ladyship'.
